This year marks the 100th anniversary of the death of one of the great Romantic composers,
Camille Saint-Saëns. Some of his works are featured in this year's festival. Not only Saint-Saëns’
music – but also his writing, and his frequent travels all over the world, provided the basis for
many aspects of exoticism and orientalism of his works. His attitude toward non-Western
music—evolved significantly over time.
